Project Spotlight: Distribution & Transmission Updates between San Antonio & Houston...
M&S Engineering, and its sister company Sherwood Surveying & S.U.E., were founded on values that foster an atmosphere where we focus on long-term relationships built on trust. That trust is formed over time by consistently delivering quality designs and expert advice to our clients.
Thankfully, a strong part of our culture is the relentless pursuit of keeping things simple. Since founding the company, Brian has managed decision making by using common sense and moving in the direction that provides the least complex solution, and operating in a relatively flat, non-hierarchical structure. We have an “operate small, act big” mentality. It’s a part of our DNA as a company. Our goal is to continue to grow our employee base and client relationships but operate with that small company feel internally to attract and retain the best talent possible. In doing so, our clients will benefit in getting to work with smart, happy employees who help them solve their problems.
M&S Engineering provided structural design for cast in place clarifiers, aeration basins, concrete headworks, a laboratory, and a chemical building with porch for the 4S Ranch development in Bulverde. M&S also provided construction support through the various stages of the project. It is rare for our Structural design team to get called back when a project is near construction completion. We were thrilled to visit this project site a few times over the winter, view the project, and see it come to fruition. Our team truly enjoys these types of projects; the design is always interesting and unique, and addressing the nuances during the design phase is a great experience.

Pattern Energy and the New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority (RETA) requested Public Services of New Mexico (PNM) to connect more than 800 MW of new wind power to the New Mexico grid. With this, addition of a new substation and additional transmission lines was required. M&S Engineering designed a 345 kV substation and 155 miles of transmission line, which will be owned and operated by PNM. Four transmission lines connected to a 4-breaker ring bus including a 72 MVAR shunt reactor. Capacity for future expansion was included, as well as provisions for possible future conversion to breaker-and-a-half technology.

For the seventh consecutive year, M&S Engineering is proud to have won the “Top Work Places” honor. The San Antonio Express-News has recognized 85 Companies and Organizations in San Antonio as Top Workplaces for 2020. These companies have been recognized based solely on surveys about the workplace completed by their employees. While we are honored to be awarded this recognition, we understand that without our employees and coworkers this would never happen.
