Wurstfest – Stelzenhaus Building
Due to its location, next to a body of water, and the geotechnical study detecting caving layers of gravel, temporary steel casings were used to install the 17-foot drilled piers. Since the structure is in the 100-year flood plain, it had to be elevated on 12-foot steel columns on top of concrete piers, which resulted in a useable, covered space below the finish floor. Overall, the elevated structure measures 12,700 square foot with a 12,500 square foot concrete pad at the lower level. The second level of the structure houses an event center with a restaraunt and features an open truss design.
M&S Engineering provided all structural design and analysis for the foundations, structural steel framing, decking, concrete ramp, as well as a retaining wall. The engineering design also included an elevated platform to hold the A/C unit and incorporated the use of an exterior cooler. The M&S structural team also performed periodic construction observations and inspections.
