Wink to Culberson 138kV Transmission Line Rebuild
This project included the upgrading and rebuilding of the existing 336 ACSR, wooden “H-Frame” single circuit line from Wink to Loving, Loving to Elmar, and Elmar to Mason.
The installation of a new double circuit required the use of 1926.9 ACSS/TW on new steel monopole structures over the 73-mile route. The circuit is a radial feed to the remote area of West Texas. Due to the critical nature of this path, a temporary transmission line was also designed and constructed parallel to the existing route such that construction activities would not require lengthy outages. The project also required upgrading the dead-end structures at three substation locations (Loving, Elmar and Mason) and the establishment of a new switch structure for the future tap to feed the future Screwbean Substation.
M&S Engineering was responsible for the preparation and creation of the overall line route map, detailed line design in PLS-CADD format, plan and profile sheets, structure staking diagrams, bill of materials and hardware assemblies, structure detail drawings, OPGW layout and installation drawings, sag and tension tables, phasing diagrams, foundation designs and schedule. Additional services included procurement support, grounding design and drawings, sketches/drawings for permit submittals, overall construction book, and technical support throughout construction.
