Seward Junction 138kV Substation
Due to increasing loads and reliability concerns in the areas north of Austin, Texas, Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) constructed a new substation between Leander and Georgetown. As part of an ongoing relationship with PEC, M&S Engineering provided the engineering design and construction administration for the project.
This new station was designed with a 138kV double breaker ring bus configuration for the interconnecting transmission lines and two 138/25kV power transformers with (5) 25kV distribution feeder breakers, (3) 25kV future distribution feeder bays, (2) 25kV total breakers and (1) 25kV operating bus tie breaker.
The operating bus tie is capable of being remotely closed by PEC SCADA facilities in the event one of the power transformers were to experience a problem and needed to be isolated. M&S provided all the design elements for the structural electrical portion in addition to the relay and control systems. Our scope of work also included the civil and site preparation, grounding and the re-configuration of the transmission line dead ends into the new station. M&S also provided documentation and assisted the cooperative’s procurement personnel with solicitation and selection of the contractor, equipment and materials.
